ART iT from Japan

ART iT launched in 2003 as a bilingual Japanese-English quarterly print publication, the first of its kind in Japan. From its inception, the magazine's mission was to link contemporary art events happening in Japan to those taking place elsewhere in the region and around the world.

In 2009, ART iT began the next phase of its development by converting to an exclusively online publication and social networking site combining both editorial and user-generated content created by leading Japanese and international artists and art professionals as well as casual art enthusiasts.

ART iT intends to rethink the nature of online media. Rather than focusing on constantly updated information, the publication features in-depth, articulated ideas about contemporary art and culture.

Remember that Doug Aitken film I was in? I just got this rendering in my email of what it is going to look like and the details of the installation:

The major installation in Rome (will be) on the tip of the Tiber Island from 23 October to 23 November 2009 (http://www.enelcontemporanea.it). Afterwards the installation will be donated by Enel to the MACRO museum of Rome (Museo d’Arte Contemporanea Roma), as part of a new partnership between Enel and the museum.

Wish I was there to see my breakthrough performance as “Person in the crowd”.  Seriously guys, it is inspired, nuanced and heartfelt.

Doug Aitken has a billboard up on La Cienega right now between Venice and Washington*.
*Don’t quote me on that last part.

Doug Aitken’s film, ‘migration,’ makes its West Coast debut at Regen Projects in Los Angeles, along with an exhibition of  new text-based light boxes. ‘migration,’ which was first shown at 303 Gallery in New York and then at the 2008 Carnegie International, shows a number of different wild animals in motel rooms across the US, acting as wild animals will do, but in settings unnatural, with only subtle variations. The film is shown at both of Regen Projects’ locations, projected outside of the Santa Monica Boulevard location from sunrise to sunset, and on a billboard inside the North Almont Drive location.

Last night at Regen Projects 2, they had Doug Aitken’s film Migration on the outer walls.  It was incredible.
